Learn about New Life Community Church

New Life Community Church is a life-giving church in Tucson, AZ that is committed to a culture of love and generosity in the name of Jesus Christ. We are a community of believers who desire to know God more closely.

Statement of Beliefs

TRINITY

We believe in one God—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

SCRIPTURE

We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.

SINFUL NATURE

We believe that human beings are born with a fallen nature, and are, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.

ETERNITY

We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.

SALVATION

We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.

SANCTIFICATION

We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.

CHRIST'S RETURN

We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.

Core Values

A Christian People

As members of the Church Universal, we join with all true believers in proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus Christ and in affirming the historic Trinitarian creeds and beliefs of the Christian faith. We value our Wesleyan-Holiness heritage and believe it to be a way of understanding the faith that is true to Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience.

A Holiness People

God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness. We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a second work of grace, called by various terms including “entire sanctification” and “baptism with the Holy Spirit”-cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ. Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as Christlikeness.

A Missional People

We are a sent people, responding to the call of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to go into all the world, witnessing to the Lordship of Christ and participating with God in the building of the Church and the extension of His kingdom (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6:1).

New Life Community Church Leadership

Pastor Curt Lunsford

Lead Pastor

Curt married the love of his life, Heather, in 1983 and together they were blessed to bring four wonderful children into the world.

They are the proud grandparents of four and hoping for more to come.

Curt graduated with an MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1995.

He also received a BA from the University of Arizona in Religious Studies.

Curt was called to become a pastor when he was still a teenager, but due to various reasons he did not pursue that call until he was in his 30s. He accepted the call to Pastor New Life Community Church of the Nazarene in 1995 and has been serving here since, pursuing "a long obedience in the same direction."

Pastor Tom Hruska

Older Adults

Tom took a strange path to being a pastor. He began his career teaching political science. Then he spent almost 34 years as an actuary. As he reached "retirement" he felt called to help older adults age well and to find their new calling. For him, that new calling included becoming a pastor. In one sense it was an old calling. He has always been deeply involved in the work of the church. He just needed to grow up a lot before he could be a pastor.

Tom has gone through three rounds of education. The first round was at the University of Redlands and Claremont Graduate School and led to teaching political science. The second required years of self-study and exams to be an actuary. Becoming a pastor required a third round of education through Nazarene Bible College.

Tom and Luanna were married in 1977. They have three sons and one grandson.  Thomas lives in Tucson, Stephen lives in Wisconsin, and Philip is in Michigan.

Louisa Colmenero

Church Secretary

The day I came to this church I felt loved like this is where I belonged. I was a quiet person not volunteering much or speaking to anyone much. Then, Heather got me involved with the church nursery. After that Pastor Betsy involved me in the kitchen, and it seemed like I had found my calling.

I married the love of my life here on July 27, 2024. I became the secretary of this beautiful, loving church in May of 2025. I know God called me here. This is where I belong.
